Constituency Leaders Call for Transparency and Fairness in Selection Process, Accuse MP of Favoritism
Krachi West, Oti Region – Aggrieved constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Krachi West have called for an immediate re-vetting of all aspirants for the upcoming Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) elections. The executives expressed their concerns regarding transparency and fairness in the current vetting process during a press conference held earlier this week.
The executives highlighted numerous complaints about the criteria used to assess the aspirants, citing a lack of clarity that has fueled suspicions of favoritism and bias. They argue that these issues are undermining the integrity of the party and eroding trust among its members.
During the press conference, Krachi West Constituency Chairman Nicholas Wayp Dordoe expressed deep disappointment with what he described as a biased selection process. He accused the Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi West, Hon. Helen Adwoa Ntoso, of colluding with the vetting committee to sideline dedicated constituency executives who played a crucial role in securing victories for both the MP and former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 elections.
Dordoe revealed that the MP failed to provide financial support for campaign activities leading up to the elections, leaving the constituency executives to bear the burden of mobilizing resources. He further disclosed that the party incurred over GH¢100,000 in transportation expenses for voters from Accra, Tamale, Ho, Kumasi, Ada, and Battor, which the MP allegedly refused to reimburse.
“After all this, the MP is deciding who should represent the president as MCE for our area,” Dordoe stated. “This is unacceptable and demoralizing for those who worked tirelessly for the party’s success.”
The chairman emphasized the need to uphold the NDC’s principles of democracy and inclusivity, calling for a thorough investigation into the selection process to ensure it reflects the will of party members and the community. He also demanded that the National Executives form an independent body to re-vet all aspirants from Krachi West.
An anonymous executive echoed these sentiments, stating, “Every aspirant deserves a fair chance, and the current process does not reflect that.”
The constituency communication officer and other party members added that the call for re-vetting is not just about fairness but also about restoring confidence among party members.
They urged the NDC leadership to prioritize transparency and accountability in the selection process to strengthen party unity ahead of the next election.
The executives believe that addressing these concerns will not only resolve the current issues but also bolster the party’s prospects in future elections.
