I will not forget the Creative Art – Hon. John Dumelo

Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the creative arts industry despite taking on new responsibilities as a Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.

Speaking at the launch of gospel musician Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed his appreciation for the singer’s work and pledged his continuous support for the arts. He emphasized that his new political role would not deter him from contributing to the development of the creative sector.

“Despite the fact that I am an MP now and I am in the Agric Ministry, I still will not forget where I came from, which is the arts sector, and I will always be an arts person. I will always be a creative person, and if we don’t develop our own, who else will develop it for us?” Dumelo stated at the event, held at Tang Palace in Accra.

His words reinforced his commitment to promoting the arts, even as he takes on critical responsibilities in the agricultural sector. Dumelo’s presence at the event underscored his belief in the power of creative arts and its impact on national development

The celebrated actor noted that while some people overlook the significance of the creative industry, it plays a crucial role in Ghana’s economy. He stressed the need for continuous investment and development in the sector to ensure its growth and sustainability.

Over the years, Ghana’s creative industry has proven to be a significant contributor to economic growth, providing employment opportunities and projecting the country’s rich culture to the global stage. Dumelo’s advocacy for the arts aligns with efforts to strengthen the sector and position it as a vital part of national progress.

John Dumelo’s dedication to the creative industry comes at a time when he has taken on greater political responsibilities. Just a day before the Celestial Praiz concert, he was officially announced as the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture. His appointment did not come as a surprise, as many had speculated he would be given a ministerial role due to his active engagement in politics and national development.

Interestingly, before his nomination, there were widespread expectations that Dumelo would be appointed to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, given his background in the entertainment industry. However, his new role in the agricultural sector highlights his versatility and passion for national development beyond the arts.

Despite his political career, Dumelo has remained deeply involved in agriculture, advocating for youth participation in the sector. His work in farming has inspired many young Ghanaians to explore agriculture as a viable economic venture.

As the current MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Dumelo has demonstrated a strong commitment to both his political responsibilities and his personal passions. His promise to remain connected to the arts even while serving in government shows his dedication to uplifting multiple sectors of the economy.
