Kwame Dadzie, an entertainment journalist with the Multimedia Group, has expressed concerns about a private television station airing official government activities from the Jubilee House, the seat of the Presidency.
Dadzie asks why a private media outlet, rather than the state-owned broadcaster, is being used to disseminate government affairs through Jubilee House’s social media platforms. He argues that such an arrangement raises serious concerns about governance and transparency.
“If you are not worried that a private TV station broadcasts dealings of government through Jubilee House’s social media handles instead of the Nation’s Broadcaster, then you probably still have a lot to reset about your way of thinking,” he stated.
He dismissed the justification that a similar arrangement existed when President Mahama was a candidate, emphasizing that there is a significant difference between being a political candidate and being the head of state. As a presidential candidate, Mahama had the freedom to use any available resources for his campaign.
However, now that he is the President, he is expected to utilize the country’s national broadcaster or an official production from Jubilee House itself, similar to how Parliament operates.
Dadzie further advised President Mahama to distance himself from practices that could undermine his credibility and governance. “If President Mahama wants to really make a mark in his second coming, he should purge himself of anything that has the potential to sully his work. This doesn’t bode well for the country,” he said
While acknowledging the need to reward party loyalists, Dadzie stressed that national institutions should not be compromised in the process.
