Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician and entrepreneur, Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, has been appointed as a Presidential Staffer for the Black Star Experience.
The Black Star Experience is the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagship initiative focused on Culture, Arts, and Tourism. Its goal is to redefine Ghanaian identity, attract investments, create employment opportunities, and boost tourism. The program will feature year-round celebrations encompassing entertainment, arts, and education.
Beyond his music career, Rex Omar is a trained management professional specializing in intellectual property rights, making him one of Ghana’s foremost experts in the field. His leadership in the music industry includes serving as Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) since 2017, a position he was re-elected to for a second term.
Rex has held numerous influential positions, including Vice President of the Copyright Society of Ghana and a member of the 2013 Committee for National Intellectual Property and Policy Strategy. He previously served as the head of Business and Finance at the Musicians Union of Ghana. Additionally, he is a member of the Swiss copyright society “SUISSA” and has a publishing contract with EMI (Germany).
His experience in creative arts policy has made him a key advisor to former President John Mahama and the NDC, offering insights on developing Ghana’s cultural and entertainment sector. He has also been the party’s spokesperson on creative industry matters.
With his wealth of experience, Rex Omar’s appointment is expected to contribute significantly to the success of the Black Star Experience and the broader creative industry in Ghana.
