Renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has responded to accusations of being a ‘stingy’ celebrity who refuses to offer financial assistance.
Speaking on the +444 Podcast, shared on X on February 26, 2025, Sarkodie clarified that his financial decisions are based on principles rather than a reluctance to help.
According to him, even some of his family members feel offended when he declines their monetary requests, but he insists that he only gives when he deems it appropriate.
“I always say, ‘I will see what I can do’ when people ask me for money. I am very straightforward about that. My family keeps telling me that my ‘no’ is so firm that they feel offended,” he explained.
Sarkodie emphasized that his decision to provide financial help depends on the purpose of the request.
“You can ask me for a thousand dollars, and I would say no, but you can ask for fifteen, and I will send it. It depends on what you say and what you need the money for. If I can’t help, of course, I will tell you I can’t do it,” he stated.
Reflecting on his early days in the industry, he shared a personal experience where he faced similar expectations despite not having much himself.
“There was a time when I had no money. I was just starting my career, and after earning a little, I spent my last amount on myself. I had nothing left, but I knew I could go to the bank later. Then, a guy walked in and asked for money to travel. I told him I didn’t have any, but he refused to believe me. Since then, we have not been on talking terms,” he recounted.
Despite ongoing social media narratives labeling him as stingy, Sarkodie remains firm in his belief that his approach is about intentional giving rather than selfishness. He argues that those who get upset about his financial choices may not have had genuine intentions toward him in the first place.
“If someone is mad at you because of that, it means they were not meant to be in your life,” he concluded.
