High Commissioner of Canada to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat Pays a Courtesy call on the Minster for Foreign Affairs Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The High Commissioner of Canada to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) on Monday, 3rd March, 2025.

The High Commissioner indicated that Canada and Ghana had a lot in common, such as multicultural societies. She indicated that she was delighted when she heard that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was going to focus on economic diplomacy, informing that it was one of Canada’s focus areas, and would recommend the two countries share notes.

The High Commissioner also spoke of her country’s renewed engagement with Africa through a series of flagship initiatives that will strengthen partnerships at all levels, bilatereally, multilaterally and regionally, such as Peace and Security, Human Rights, and Agriculture. She mentioned the need to renew the Elsie Initiative Agreement with the Ghana Armed Forces due to the success of the programme.

The Minister expressed his appreciation to the High Commissioner for the support that her country continues to offer Ghana. He indicated the need to negotiate a Bilateral Air Service Agreement between the two countries and explore the possibility of direct flights.

The Minister stated that the Ministry would work with the Ministry of Defence and Canada to renegotiate the Elsie Initiative for Women in Peace Operations, which was a good capacity building initiative for the military.

He also discussed the setting up of the Women’s Bank and indicated that Ghana would appreciate technical support to set it up.
