A 7-member committee has been established to investigate the clash between students of Sokode SHTS and the Youth of Sokode Gbogame on February 23, 2025. The committee, chaired by Mr. Alexander M.A.K. Buadi, has been given a two-week deadline to present its findings.
The clash, which occurred on February 23, 2025, attracted widespread attention, with both communities of Sokode condemning the acts and urging for swift investigations to unravel the anomalies that resulted into the Temporal closure of the school.
In response to the clash, the regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, formed the 7-member committee on February 27, 2025.
The committee’s tasks include identifying the root cause of the clash, assessing the extent of injuries, determining responsible individuals or groups, identifying security lapses, and recommending preventive measures.
The committee comprises representatives from the Education Directorate, Police Service, local authorities, and the PTA. This diverse representation ensures that the investigation is comprehensive and thorough.
The Regional Minister has expressed his expectation of an excellent report from the committee. He emphasized that education cannot thrive in conflict, and therefore, a safe and peaceful environment must be ensured for the students.
Hon. James Gunu commended the Regional Education Directorate for swiftly implementing the Regional Security Council’s advice. He also appreciated the commitment of the committee to upholding discipline and security in the schools.
The establishment of the 7-member committee demonstrates the regional Minister’s commitment to addressing the root causes of the clash and ensuring that such incidents do not recur in the future.
