We Are Doing Our Best – Mr. Drew

Ghanaian musician Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, popularly known as Mr. Drew, has challenged claims that Ghanaian music is only recognized within the country.

His response follows a statement made by UK-based Ghanaian media personality George Britton, who asserted that Ghanaian songs do not gain traction in neighboring countries.

Britton’s remark sparked discussions about the reach and influence of Ghanaian music beyond its borders.

However, Mr. Drew, a multiple award-winning artist, refuted this claim, emphasizing that Ghanaian musicians are working hard to promote their music internationally.

He argued that the notion that Ghanaian songs do not even reach countries like Togo and Ivory Coast is inaccurate.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye, he stated, “I don’t think it’s true that our songs don’t even cross to Togo or Ivory Coast. I believe we are making progress, and we are trying our best.”

Drawing an analogy, he added, “Since Rome wasn’t built in a day, we won’t achieve everything all at once. Progress takes time, and we are moving forward step by step.”

Mr. Drew reiterated that Ghanaian artists are putting in significant effort to expand their reach. “We are doing our best, and I disagree with the idea that Ghanaian songs are only known within Ghana,” he concluded.

His remarks highlight the ongoing efforts of Ghanaian artists to gain international recognition while acknowledging the gradual nature of success in the global music industry.
