Regional Model School Parents Protest Municipal Education Director’s Interference

Parents and stakeholders of the Regional Model School are up in arms over the Municipal Education Director, Dr. Esther Adzo Yeboah-Adzimah’s, alleged interference in the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) affairs. This interference has reportedly led to financial mismanagement, declining educational standards, and the unjustified transfer of qualified teachers.

The parents are demanding that the results of the PTA election held in May last year be upheld and Officer duly sworn in. They are also objecting to the introduction of a fee-paying computer program, which they claim is illegal. Furthermore, the parents are protesting the imposition of arbitrary examination fees and alleging that Dr. Yeboah-Adzimah has threatened parents and children for raising concerns about her interference.

The parents have petitioned the Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, to intervene and address their concerns. They are demanding that the Regional Minister intervene and halt the interference of the Municipal Education Office in PTA affairs.

They are also calling for a full investigation into the mismanagement of PTA funds by the current PTA administration.

Additionally, the parents are demanding the reversal of all unnecessary teacher transfers since the Municipal Director of Education indicated they were transferred for sharing information with parents. They are also seeking the retrieval of the illegal fees charged for the computer classes that were objected to by parents.

The parents have given the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) a one-month ultimatum to address their concerns. They have also appealed to the media, civil society, and concerned stakeholders to support their call for justice.

It’s worth noting that the Municipal Education Director’s role includes supervising teaching and learning in schools, appraising and recommending teachers for promotion, and ensuring the proper functioning of School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).¹

However, in this case, the parents are alleging that Dr. Yeboah-Adzimah has overstepped her bounds and is interfering in the PTA’s affairs. The parents are determined to fight for their rights and ensure that the school is run in a transparent and accountable manner.

Mr. Yahuza Dimmie the Assistant Director 1 receiving the petition on behalf of the Regional Minister pledged that the petition will be duly submitted to the regional Minister for the necessary responses and concerns to be addressed.

Ultimately, the fate of the Regional Model School and its students hangs in the balance. The parents are fighting for a better future for their children, and it’s essential that their voices are heard.

The controversy surrounding the Municipal Education Director’s interference in the PTA’s affairs highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in the education sector.

It’s crucial that stakeholders work together to ensure that schools are run in a fair and just manner.
