The Launch of Ghana Public Finance Review

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, in the company of the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, participated in the launch of the Ghana Public Finance Review Report held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

Interacting with the media, the Minister emphasized the need for more investment in the social protection programmes such as the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) as captured by the report. She believes that strengthening and expanding these programmes will help reduce vulnerability in our society.

The review report highlighted that these initiatives play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable populations and must continue to expand both in coverage and value of benefits.

The launch, organized by the World Bank under the theme “Building the Foundations for Resilient and Equitable Fiscal Policy,” provided an in-depth analysis of the efficiency, equity, and impact of public revenue and expenditure, focusing on select critical areas.

The review also aims to inform Ghana’s fiscal consolidation efforts as the country strives to recover from the 2022 macroeconomic crisis.

In his remarks, the World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, Robert Taliercio, noted that the Public Finance Review explores the critical role of effective fiscal policies and public financial management in achieving sustainable and equitable economic growth.

The report outlines key recommendations for building an equitable and robust fiscal system, structured around four high-level policy priorities: Strengthening fiscal discipline, sustainably enhancing domestic revenue mobilization, Managing the financing mix and Ring-fencing pro-growth and pro-poor investments – Prioritizing spending on human development, agriculture, economic transformation, and climate resilience.
