President John Mahama has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering linked to two suspicious flights that reportedly landed at Kotoka International Airport.
The directive was issued following a press conference by Member of Parliament Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who raised concerns about the flights’ purpose and cargo.
In a Facebook post, President Mahama confirmed that he has instructed investigative agencies to collaborate with the MP and obtain any relevant information necessary for a swift inquiry. “The government takes all allegations seriously,” the President stated, emphasizing the need for a “thorough and transparent investigation.” He assured that all relevant agencies have been directed to work closely with the MP to uncover any illicit activities.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fighting drug-related crimes, President Mahama declared a strict “zero tolerance” policy on Ghana being used as a transit or final destination for illegal drugs.
This directive comes in the wake of a recent major drug bust by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), which seized narcotics valued at an estimated $350 million. According to the President, such actions underscore the government’s dedication to combating drug trafficking and related crimes.
