The Agortime Ziope District Assembly has unanimously confirmed Hon. Alfred Odikro Eklu as the new District Chief Executive. This decision was made with a total of 22 yes votes, marking a significant milestone in his career.¹
Before his approval, the district had sworn in 7 Government Appointees to join the elected Assembly members. This swearing-in ceremony took place ahead of the approval of Hon. Alfred Odikro Eklu as the DCE.
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu in his remarks appealed to the Assembly members to endorse Hon. Eklu, emphasizing that the president had fulfilled his constitutional mandate by nominating a him as candidate hence the time for the members to also exercise their mandates
Hon. Gunu also reminded the members that their salaries, amounting to Ghc1,300 each, had already been captured in the 2025 budget. This was emphasized as a recognition of the importance of the Assembly members.
The Akatsi North District had earlier given a 100% endorsement to their candidate, setting a precedent for the Agortime Ziope District. Hon. Gunu encouraged the members to emulate the Akatsi North member, who had already taken the pace.
Hon. Eklu’s confirmation as the DCE is expected to pave the way for the district’s development. With his wealth of experience as the former constituency chairman of the NDC, he is well-equipped to lead the district towards growth and improvement.
Hon. Eklu served as the NDC constituency chairman for 12 years before his nomination and approval as the DCE. His leadership skills and dedication to the district’s development are expected to yield positive results.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Charles Agbeve, also pushed the members to endorse Hon. Eklu. With his leadership, the district is expected to witness significant growth and improvement.
The Agortime Ziope District is one of the 18 districts in the Volta Region of Ghana, predominantly made up of farmers and traders. Hon. Eklu has promised to work tirelessly for the development of the area, acknowledging the efforts of the Member of Parliament and committing to not let him down.
