Two of Ghana’s most celebrated football legends, Abedi Ayew (Pele) and Asamoah Gyan, have been appointed as Ambassadors for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship. The prestigious tournament is set to take place in Accra from April 21st to 26th at the University of Ghana Stadium.

This appointment highlights their immense contributions to Ghanaian and African football, reinforcing their legacy as influential figures in the sport.

Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year and former Black Stars captain, remains one of the most revered footballers in African history. He played a crucial role in Ghana’s 1982 AFCON victory and led the team to the 1992 finals.

His remarkable career extended beyond Ghana, with notable stints in European football, playing for elite clubs like Marseille and Lille.

Through his club, Nania FC, Abedi Pele has been instrumental in developing young Ghanaian talents, many of whom have gone on to represent the national team.

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, is another legendary figure in African football. With 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars, he has showcased his goal-scoring prowess across various leagues, including the English Premier League, Serie A, and the UAE Pro League.

Beyond football, Gyan has dedicated himself to philanthropy, spearheading initiatives through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation to support underprivileged children and promote education and sports development.

Having previously served as an ambassador for the CAF African Schools Football Championship’s second edition, Gyan continues to be a role model for young athletes.

As Ambassadors for the 2025 African Schools Football Championship, Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan will play pivotal roles in promoting the tournament, mentoring young players, and fostering the growth of youth football in Africa. Their involvement is expected to add prestige to the event, inspiring the young talents who will compete in the championship.
