Government, Tech Partners Eye Training of 350,000 Youth in Coding and Digital Skills

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations is in talks with international technology partners to roll out a large-scale digital skills training programme targeting Ghanaian youth.
At a meeting with executives of Code Raccoon Ltd, Jörn Halsinger (CEO), Christian Walczak (CFO), and Emily Okine (Office Manager, Corporate Affairs), discussions centered on a proposal to train 350,000 young people annually in basic coding and software development. The three-month programme will cover indemand skills such as Python and JavaScript, with additional modules on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
According to Code Raccoon, the training curriculum has already been successfully deployed in Berlin and will be adapted for Ghana. It is set to receive local accreditation through the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and international certification from leading European tech firms. This, the partners noted, would give graduates a competitive edge both locally and in the global job market.
The company disclosed plans to invest €2 million in content development and training infrastructure while seeking an additional €2 million in co-funding from business partners. They also called for government support through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the partnership.
Emphasising the value of global recognition, the Minister stated: “It’s not just about training, but ensuring our youth are employable globally. Certification that international firms recognise makes a huge difference.”
The government welcomed the proposal, urging Code Raccoon to finalise the certification framework and submit a detailed concept note. If funding is secured, the programme could launch as early as 2026, in line with Ghana’s vision of building a future-ready digital workforce.
