Asantehemaa Funeral: Manhyia Palace Orders Closure of Markets

The Manhyia Palace has directed the closure of all schools, banks, stores, marketplaces, and major commercial centers within the Kumasi Metropolis on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The directive comes as part of preparations for the funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, an event of great cultural significance to the Asante Kingdom.

According to the Palace, the temporary suspension of activities is to ensure that residents and institutions fully observe the solemn occasion and show respect to the royal household. The funeral, expected to attract thousands, will see traditional leaders, dignitaries, and mourners converge on Kumasi to pay their last respects.

The public has been urged to comply with the directive, which underscores the central role of the Asantehemaa in the cultural and traditional fabric of Asanteman.

Authorities have also advised residents to make the necessary adjustments ahead of time, as normal business activities are expected to resume the following day.
