Stonebwoy Questions Shatta Wale’s $3.5 Million Song Deal Claim

Dancehall star Shatta Wale has stirred controversy in the music industry after claiming he sold his hit single “On God” for $3.5 million and signed off part of his music catalogue for several more millions.
The revelation sparked heated debate, with reactions pouring in from fans, producers, and fellow artists. One of the first to challenge him was producer M.O.G. Beatz, who worked on Wale’s Reign and Wonda albums. He alleged that he was neither paid nor credited for his contributions, and in protest, removed both albums from Apple Music. His response further fueled doubts about the legitimacy of Wale’s announcement.
Adding his perspective, award-winning artist Stonebwoy told DJ Slim in an interview that he did not believe any Ghanaian music catalogue could fetch such sums at present. “I don’t believe that any catalog in Ghana currently is going to earn a mention at around $3–5 million,” he stated.
His remarks have intensified the debate, raising a key question: Are Ghanaian music catalogues truly worth millions on the global market, or is Wale’s claim an exaggeration?
