Dormaahene Leads Anti-Galamsey Operation, Arrests Made in Dormaa

Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has intensified his fight against illegal mining activities within the Dormaa enclave. On Sunday, he led the Dormaa anti-galamsey task force and chiefs from the Dormaa Traditional Council on a special operation at Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, and Kobedi.
During the exercise, three suspected illegal miners were arrested, while seven water pumping machines used in the activity were seized. The suspects and the equipment have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Speaking after the operation, Dormaahene issued a stern warning to individuals and groups involved in galamsey on Dormaa stool lands. He stressed that his traditional authority would not tolerate the destruction of water bodies, farmlands, and the environment in pursuit of illegal mining.
“I want to send a clear message: anyone who refuses to desist from galamsey within Dormaa will be dealt with if caught,” Dr. Agyemang Badu II declared.
The Dormaa Traditional Council has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the environment and ensuring sustainable development, urging residents to support the campaign against illegal mining for the benefit of future generations.
