The Diplomatic Passport Came as a Surprise and an Honour - Rocky Dawuni

Ghanaian reggae icon and three-time Grammy nominee Rocky Dawuni has described receiving a diplomatic passport from the Government of Ghana as an unexpected but deeply moving honour.

Speaking on Hitz FM with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, Dawuni recalled his surprise during the presentation ceremony. “When they mentioned my name, I was like, what’s going on? I was very surprised but also very honoured. I never did my work for accolades, but this was truly a blessing,” he said.

Known for blending reggae, Afrobeat, and traditional Ghanaian rhythms, Dawuni emphasized that his mission has always been to uplift his homeland and showcase African culture to the world. He explained that the passport, typically reserved for top officials, affirms his long-standing role as a cultural ambassador.

With a global career spanning music, advocacy, and collaborations with the United Nations, Dawuni said the recognition strengthens his ability to officially represent Ghana internationally. “I was excited, happy, and grateful,” he added.
