We have Done More in 9 Months than in 8 Years - Hon. Sam George

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has stressed the urgent need for bolder measures to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, citing its destructive effects on Ghana’s water bodies and environment.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, September 29, 2025, Mr. George admitted that while progress has been made, much more remains to be done.
“Am I excited about where our country is with galamsey? Hell no, absolutely not. I think that a lot more has to be done,” he said.

He, however, acknowledged recent momentum, noting that significant progress has been achieved under the leadership of Energy Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
“Is work on the way? Certainly. We have seen more action in the last eight to nine months since Armah-Buah took office than we have seen in eight years,” he emphasized.

The Honorable further praised the joint military operations spearheaded by Mr. Armah-Buah and former Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, urging continued decisive action to eradicate galamsey once and for all.
