YEA And Zacoal Signs MoU to Train 2,000 Youth in Eco-Friendly Charcoal Production

Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale today led the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zacoal Company Limited under the agency’s Waste to Wealth Project.
Through the partnership, an initial 2,000 young Ghanaians will be trained in sustainable charcoal production, converting coconut husks, corn cobs, rice husks, and other agricultural waste into biochar, a, clean, eco-friendly, and pollution-free alternative to traditional charcoal.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Basintale stressed that the initiative is not just about job creation but also about empowering the youth, safeguarding the environment, and transforming waste into opportunity. He added that the project highlights Ghana’s ability to innovate in ways that simultaneously address unemployment and environmental concerns.
The Waste to Wealth Project reflects YEA’s broader vision of preparing Ghana’s youth for a green economy while reducing dependence on unsustainable energy sources. Stakeholders praised the program as a model for combining entrepreneurship, sustainability, and national development.
