Government Rolls Out Free Data for Ghanaians on Key National Holidays

Ghanaians have every reason to celebrate as the government announces a groundbreaking initiative: free data bundles for all citizens on selected national holidays.

Sam Nartey George, Minister for Communications and Digital Technology, unveiled the new policy during a recent press briefing. Beginning this year, Ghanaians will enjoy special data bundles on five major national holidays, namely:

Independence Day

May Day

Republic Day

Founder’s Day

Farmers’ Day

This initiative is aimed at enhancing digital inclusion and making internet access more affordable for everyone across the country.

According to Mr. George, the trial run of the Independence Day data bundle was a resounding success, paving the way for continued implementation.

The next milestone will be May Day, where workers nationwide will benefit from the complimentary data as part of the celebration of their dedication and contributions.

The initiative stems from the work of the Data Cost Pricing Committee, which impressively completed its report in just 13 days. With support from the National Communications Authority (NCA) and active collaboration with mobile network operators, the plan is set to revolutionize internet affordability in Ghana.

This move is part of a broader digital strategy to bridge the connectivity gap and empower citizens through better access to information and online resources.
