Tony Blair Institute Pledges Support for Ghana’s Digital Future During Strategic Meeting with Communications Minister
The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change recently paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), to discuss strategic partnerships in advancing Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. The meeting emphasized collaboration in areas such as technology innovation, data governance, and capacity building.
A major focus of the discussion was the remarkable progress of the One Million Coders initiative, which has already received an impressive 50,000 applications.
The Minister revealed plans to significantly scale up the program, setting a new target of reaching 2 million participants. This expansion is expected to benefit students from both public and private tertiary institutions, enhancing digital literacy and skills across the nation.
To ensure the program’s success, Hon. Nartey George is actively seeking partnerships with leading global organizations such as ALX, Google, and the Mastercard Foundation. These collaborations aim to provide high-quality training, in-person learning experiences, and globally recognized certifications, ultimately attracting Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) opportunities to Ghana.
The One Million Coders initiative is part of Ghana’s broader vision for a digitally empowered society. By equipping young people with essential tech skills, the program is expected to drive innovation, create jobs, and support sustainable economic growth.
The Tony Blair Institute delegation, led by Country Director Sam Mensah-Baah, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to supporting the Government of Ghana, particularly in implementing the President’s AI and Digital Transformation Agenda.
