Wednesday 14th May 2025, President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama received Dr John Nkengasong, the Director General of the African Centre for Disease Control, at the presidency.
Meanwhile, Ghana and Africa CDC have signed a memorandum for data sharing and cross-border surveillance. This agreement should help strengthen epidemic intelligence and enhance health security in Ghana and the sub-region.
At a press briefing after Dr Jean Kaseya met with President Mahama, Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP) stated that Ghana has learnt its lessons and is adequately preparing for any future pandemic. He thanked the Africa CDC for its support.
“We have received about $2.4 million to strengthen our primary health care system and trained about 400 epidemiologists. At the moment, they have also assisted us to raise not less than $1.6 million for the procurement and delivery of coaching and IT equipment.”
The Director General of the African Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Dr. Jean Kaseya, emphasised the necessity for African countries to prepare for a future without substantial donor funding.
