Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple Wins Volta Regional Council of State Election

Ho, Volta Region – Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah Atokp le has won in the just-ended Volta Regional Council of State election, securing 24 votes, the highest of all the candidates.

The election, held Tuesday morning at the Regional capital, Ho, saw numerous candidates from across the region competing for the prestigious position.

Azi Ganyo (Togbi Akamu V) came in second with 5 votes, while Dr Wuaku David Kofi garnered 4 votes. Felix Lartey received 2 votes, and the remaining candidates, including Ing. Worlali Kwabla Ameevor, Togbi Kpemini Gawu, Torgbuigah Adama III, Havi Delasi Justice, Kirchuffs Atengble, Godwin Yayra Nkuawu, Amegashie Godisgood, and Rev. Cephas Kodzo Dzidzienyo, did not receive any votes. One ballot was also rejected.

A total of 36 delegates from 18 Municipal and District Assemblies gathered to cast their votes in the election.

Tanko Kwamigah Atokple is a distinguished politician and entrepreneur with an MBA in Project Management and an International Certificate in Public-Private Partnership. He has made significant strides in real estate through his company, TK Realities, and has achieved great success in gold dealing through Sesi-Edem Company Limited. Furthermore, he is widely recognized for his charitable contributions through the Tanko Foundation.

In an exclusive interaction with Veritas News, Mr. Atokple appreciated the efforts of all delegates for peaceful elections as well as his other contenders for a smooth campaign process. He also assured people of the Region of a new dawn of development as he assumed his role of counseling the President.

Atokple’s victory ensures his role as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, where he will provide advice and counsel to President John Dramani Mahama on national issues.

As outlined in Articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the Council of State is established to advise the President in the execution of his national duties. Its members include former Chief Justices, former Chiefs of the Defence Staff, and former Inspectors-General of Police, each appointed by the President in consultation with Parliament. Other members consist of the President of the National House of Chiefs, one representative from each region, and 11 additional appointees made by the President.

The Council of State also plays a key role in considering and advising the President on appointments that require constitutional or legal consultation.
