Tourism Minister Embarks on Volta Region Tour to Strengthen Partnerships and Improve Accessibility

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has commenced a regional tour of the Volta Region. The tour aims to foster stronger collaboration with local authorities and tackle infrastructural challenges affecting tourism in the area.

The tour started with a courtesy visit to the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Ho. This visit forms part of a broader initiative by the Ministry to engage Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), alongside other key stakeholders, to position the Volta Region as a prime tourism destination. The agenda includes improving infrastructure, attracting investment, and boosting the visibility of the region’s rich natural and cultural attractions.

Hon. Gomashie reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to supporting local assemblies in promoting and marketing the Volta Region’s unique tourism potential. “Our mission is to bring technical expertise and financial backing to complement local efforts. With the right infrastructure and coordination, Volta can rise to become one of Ghana’s leading tourism hubs,” she emphasized.

In response, Hon. James Gunu highlighted the region’s vast tourism prospects while pointing out the pressing challenge of inadequate road networks that restrict access to many of its picturesque sites. “We’re working diligently to overcome these hurdles. This visit is both timely and encouraging, reflecting our collective ambition to leverage tourism for regional growth,” he noted.

As part of the tour, the delegation visited the Praise City Eco Park and Resort, popularly known as “Point and Kill,” located along the Ho–Kpetoe road. The park offers a range of eco-tourism experiences, including a zip line, canopy walkway, boat rides, and wildlife interactions, showcasing the type of sustainable attractions the region can offer to visitors.

Stakeholders at the event emphasized the need for increased government support and the swift implementation of tourism-friendly policies. They also called for enhanced road infrastructure, heightened promotion of existing tourist sites, and coordinated strategies at both regional and national levels to establish tourism as a key economic driver for the Volta Region.
