Parliament Passes Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2025, Legalizes Okada for Commercial Use

Parliament of Ghana has officially passed the Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2025, a historic decision that legalizes the commercial use of quadricycles, tricycles and motorcycles, popularly known as Okada. The move marks a major shift in the country’s transportation framework and is expected to impact mobility, employment and regulation across urban and rural areas.

The newly approved bill seeks to formalize a widely practiced but previously unregulated sector. For years, Okada and tricycle riders have provided essential transport services to communities, especially in areas with limited access to traditional public transport.
