The Foreign Affairs Minister has reiterated a five-themed action plan to revamp the Passport Office and improve the passport application process in Ghana during his tenure as Minister of the sector
During the visit, the Minister thanked the staff for their hard work and dedication over the years and also announced important changes under the Resetting Ghana Passport Reforms, which will begin this year. These improvements aim to make passport services faster, more modern, and affordable for all Ghanaians.
1. 24-Hour Service: Passport offices will now operate 24 hours a day. This will create more jobs and help process and deliver passports within a week.
2. Modernized Application Process: The passport system will be fully upgraded to prepare for chip-embedded passports that meet international standards.
3. Home Delivery: Passports will be delivered by courier, so applicants no longer need to travel to Passport Application Centres to collect them.
4. Lower Fees: The cost of ordinary passports will be reduced, making them more affordable for citizens.
5. Better Staff Benefits: Workers in the Passport Administration will receive improved welfare packages.
During the visit, staff mentioned challenges with accessing clean drinking water. The Minister immediately took action by installing multiple water dispensers at the two Passport Application Centres. This was completed in less than 18 hours, benefiting both staff and the general public.
These reforms show the government’s commitment to making passport services easier, faster, and more convenient for Ghanaians.
