The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the cost of obtaining a passport in Ghana will be reduced from GH¢500 to GH¢350. This decision is part of the government’s plan to make passports more affordable while maintaining security standards.
Speaking in Parliament on March 13, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the government understands concerns about the high cost of passports. He stated that the reduction follows the President’s directive to make passports more accessible to all Ghanaians.
He also mentioned that the Ministry will soon present an amendment to Parliament for approval of the new fees.
In addition, the government plans to introduce a door-to-door passport delivery service as part of a new 24-hour service initiative. This is expected to improve convenience for applicants.
Previously, in April 2024, the Ministry increased passport fees under the 2023 Fees and Charges Regulations, L.I. 2481. However, with this new announcement, Ghanaians can expect a more affordable and efficient passport application process.
