H. E. John Dramani Mahama Visits Niger

President John Mahama continued his tour of West African countries to promote good relations with Ghana’s neighbors.

On Sunday, he traveled to Niamey, Niger, to meet with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the leader of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland.

The two leaders first held a private discussion before joining their teams for a larger meeting at the presidential palace.

A statement released after the talks confirmed that they discussed ways to improve security in West Africa, particularly in fighting terrorism. They also talked about boosting trade between Ghana and Niger and strengthening their relationship.

President Tchiani spoke about the need for ECOWAS to recognize the Alliance of Sahel States. In response, President Mahama highlighted the importance of working together to tackle terrorism, which threatens both the Sahel region and coastal countries.

President Mahama also thanked President Tchiani for sending a delegation to his inauguration on January 7, 2025. He emphasized that Ghana and Niger have a long history of trade, with Ghana importing many agricultural products from Niger.
