Mahama Fulfills Promise: E-Levy, Betting Tax, and Other Levies Scrapped

President John Mahama has officially approved new measures eliminating the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), the 10% betting tax, the emissions levy, and several other related taxes.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, President Mahama signed the laws into effect, marking the end of these tax collections. This follows Parliament’s unanimous passage of the measures on March 26.

With this move, President Mahama has fulfilled his campaign promise to abolish the E-Levy within his first 120 days in office.

In addition to these tax removals, the President has also approved several key legislative reforms, including the National Health Insurance Bill, the Public Financial Amendments Bill 2025, the Public Procurement Amendment Bill 2025, the Value Added Tax Amendments Bill, the Petroleum Revenue Management Amendment Bill, and measures to uncap the GETFund.
