Court Orders Ohemaa Woyeje to Pay GH¢102,500 in Damages to Multimedia Group Limited

The Commercial Court “9” of the Accra High Court, led by Her Ladyship Afia N. Adu-Amankwa, has ruled in favor of Multimedia Group Limited, awarding them damages of GH¢102,500 against their former employee, Harvey Adjoa Yeboa-Asuamah, popularly known as Ohemaa Woyeje.

The decision follows a breach of contract and retention agreements by the presenter, who resigned from Adom FM, a subsidiary of Multimedia Group Limited, in 2019.

While Ohemaa Woyeje argued that she left her role due to a hostile work environment, which she claimed amounted to a constructive breach of her employment contract, the court sided with her former employer. Multimedia Group Limited is set to recover GH¢97,500 from her, representing the retention agreement payments made to her.

Additionally, she has been ordered to pay GH¢5,000 in damages for breaching her employment contract. Interest on the retention payment will be calculated at the prevailing bank rate from February 1, 2019, until the final payment is made.

However, the court also ruled in favor of Ohemaa Woyeje on her counterclaim. She is entitled to receive GH¢27,149.38 from Multimedia Group Limited as her contribution to a provident fund. To balance the payments, the court instructed a set-off of the debts.

Ohemaa Woyeje joined Multimedia Group Limited on February 1, 2013, as a presenter and left the company on January 28, 2019. She is currently employed by the Angel Broadcasting Network.
